Using dental insurance in Jersey: how claiming works

If you have dental insurance in Jersey, you can use it at Confidence Dental: you pay for your treatment on the day, we give you an itemised receipt, and you claim the cost back from your insurer. We see patients insured with Bupa, Bupa Global, AXA Health, AXA Global Healthcare, Aviva, Vitality, WPA, Cigna, Allianz Care, Simplyhealth, Westfield Health and all other insurers.

This guide explains how claiming works at our St Helier practice, what to check in your policy, and how to fit appointments around work.

How claiming works, step by step

1. Tell us your insurer when you book

Mention your cover when you book, and we’ll help you check what it includes. It also helps us give you the right paperwork from the start.

2. Get a treatment plan and estimate first

For anything beyond a routine visit, you get a written treatment plan and estimate before we start. If your insurer needs to approve treatment in advance, you send them this first and wait for their confirmation.

3. Pay on the day

Payment is due on the day of treatment, by cash or card. We don’t bill your insurer directly, but we help you with every step of your claim.

4. Claim it back

We give you an itemised receipt showing each treatment and its cost, which is what insurers ask for. Most dental insurers then reimburse you. We work with you to ensure a smooth insurance process, so if your insurer asks for anything else, let us know.

What to check in your policy

Every policy is different, so check yours before you book larger treatment. The things that most often catch people out are:

  • Annual limits for routine care, such as check-ups and hygiene visits, and separate limits for other treatment.
  • Any excess, or a percentage of each bill that you pay yourself.
  • Whether treatment needs pre-authorisation.
  • Waiting periods for new policies.
  • Whether cosmetic treatment is included at all.

Your insurer’s helpline or app will confirm your limits. Our price guide shows what each treatment costs, so you can compare it with your cover.

Routine care is the easiest claim

Most dental insurance is designed around regular check-ups and hygiene appointments. These are the simplest claims: one visit, one receipt. Keeping up with them is also the best way to avoid the larger bills later.

Appointments around your working day

Many insured patients have cover through work, so we keep appointments that fit around the office:

  • Early appointments from 8am, Monday to Thursday.
  • Lunchtime appointments. We’re on the waterfront at Castle Quay, a short walk from town.
  • Late appointments until 6pm on Mondays and Thursdays.

Not insured?

Ask about our Healthy Mouth corporate plan, an alternative to insurance that spreads the cost of routine care. If you run a business, we’re happy to talk through check-ups for your staff: call us on 01534 875 587.

Questions insured patients ask

Do you accept Bupa dental insurance? Yes. We see Bupa and Bupa Global members. You pay on the day, and we give you an itemised receipt to claim back.

Do you accept AXA, Vitality and Aviva? Yes. We work with every dental insurance provider in Jersey, including WPA, Cigna, Allianz Care, Simplyhealth and Westfield Health.

Do I have to pay upfront? Yes. Payment is due on the day of treatment. Most dental insurers then reimburse you, and we give you everything you need to claim.

Can I use my insurance for a hygiene appointment? That depends on your policy. Many policies include routine care; check your limits, then book as normal and claim with your receipt.

What if my insurer only pays part of the bill? How much your insurer pays back depends on your policy. Your written estimate shows the full cost before you start, so there are no surprises.
