Dental Check-ups in Jersey
A thorough check of your teeth, gums and mouth with one of our dentists, so small problems are caught early and you know exactly where you stand.
At a glance
What happens at a dental check-up?
Your dentist examines your teeth and fillings, looks for early signs of decay and gum disease, and checks the soft tissues of your mouth, including a mouth cancer screening. X-rays are only taken when we need to see between or inside your teeth.
You’ll hear what we found in plain English. If everything’s healthy, we’ll tell you when to come back. If something needs attention, we’ll explain your options and give you a written plan and estimate before any treatment begins.
If you’re new to Confidence, your first visit is a new patient examination, a longer appointment to get to know your mouth and your history. After that, regular check-ups keep things on track.

Dental check-ups: your questions answered
How often should I have a check-up?
It depends on your teeth and gums. Your dentist will recommend when to come back, which for adults can be anything from a few months to up to two years, in line with NICE guidance. You’ll usually be seen more often while you’re having treatment or if you have gum problems.
What’s the difference between a check-up and a hygiene visit?
At a check-up your dentist examines your teeth, gums and mouth. At a hygiene visit a dental hygienist cleans your teeth and treats your gums. Many people have both, and you can book the hygienist directly without a referral.
I’m a new patient. Should I book a check-up?
Book a new patient examination instead. It’s a longer first appointment so we can get to know your mouth and your history. See what happens at your first visit.
Are X-rays included?
X-rays are only taken when your dentist needs to see between or inside your teeth, and they’re charged separately from the check-up. All our fees are in our price guide.
Do you check for mouth cancer?
Yes. Every check-up includes a look at your tongue, cheeks and the soft tissues of your mouth. Our mouth cancer screening is free, including for people with full dentures.
Does Pension Plus cover my check-up?
Pension Plus pays up to £55 a year towards a check-up for eligible pensioners, which usually covers it in full. See how Pension Plus works.
Can I bring my children?
Yes. We see children and teenagers, and examinations for children under 12 are free when a parent joins our Healthy Mouth Plan. See our children’s dentist page.
I’m nervous about the dentist. Can you help?
Yes. Tell us when you book and we’ll go at your pace. Your first visit can simply be a chat and a check-up. See how we help nervous patients.
