The treatment explained

What are full-arch implants? Is it the same as All-on-4?

Full-arch implants replace a whole upper or lower set of teeth with a fixed bridge that is screwed onto dental implants in the jaw. The bridge isn’t taken out at night, there’s no plate covering the roof of your mouth, and you don’t need denture adhesive.

You may have seen this called All-on-4, a well-known name for a full-arch bridge on four implants. It’s the same idea: a full set of fixed teeth on implants. At Confidence a full-arch bridge usually sits on six implants, and your 3D scan shows how many you need.

It suits people who have lost most of their teeth, whose remaining teeth are failing, or who are tired of a loose denture. If a fixed bridge isn’t right for you, implants can also hold a removable denture firmly in place, and we’ll talk you through both.

Why people choose it

Fixed teeth that feel like your own

Fixed in place

Your new teeth stay in. Nothing to take out, soak or stick down.

Eat and speak with confidence

A fixed bridge doesn’t rock or slip, so you can bite and chew more naturally.

No plate on your palate

An upper bridge leaves the roof of your mouth uncovered, unlike a full upper denture.

Helps protect the jawbone

Implants slow the bone shrinkage that follows tooth loss, which helps keep the shape of your face.

Your options

Full-arch implants, implant dentures or dentures?

Is it right for you?

Who full-arch implants suit

Often a good fit if

  •  You’ve lost most of the teeth in one or both jaws
  •  Your remaining teeth are failing from decay or gum disease
  •  Your denture is loose, sore or stops you eating what you like
  •  You want teeth that stay in rather than a removable plate

What we check first

  •  The amount and quality of your jawbone, from a 3D CBCT scan
  •  Your gums, and any teeth that can still be saved
  •  Your general health: smoking, uncontrolled diabetes and untreated gum disease lower success rates
  •  Whether you need bone grafting before implants
How it works

Your full-arch treatment, step by step

01

Consultation and 3D scan

A full assessment, a CBCT scan of your jaw and a digital scan of your teeth, then a written plan and estimate.

02

Planning

Your implants are planned in 3D, and a surgical guide can be 3D printed so each one goes exactly where it was planned.

03

Placement

The implants are placed under local anaesthetic, with IV sedation available if you’re anxious. Temporary teeth can be fitted while they heal, where needed.

04

Your new teeth

After healing, usually three to six months, your final fixed bridge is made to fit and fitted to the implants.

FAQs

Full-arch implants: your questions answered

Is this the same as All-on-4?

All-on-4 is a well-known name for a full-arch bridge on four implants. It’s the same idea: a full set of fixed teeth on implants. At Confidence a full-arch bridge usually sits on six implants, and Dr Patel or Scott will tell you how many you need once they’ve seen your 3D scan.

How many implants will I need?

Usually six per jaw for a fixed full-arch bridge. A denture that clips onto implants needs fewer. We decide from your CBCT scan at your consultation.

Can I have full-arch implants if I’ve lost bone?

Often, yes. If you’ve lost bone, grafting may still make implants possible. Your 3D scan shows how much bone you have and whether grafting is needed.

What happens while the implants heal?

The implants usually take three to six months to bond with the bone. Temporary teeth can be fitted in the meantime where needed, and we’ll explain your plan for this at your consultation.

How long does treatment take?

Usually three to six months from placing the implants to fitting your final bridge, which gives the implants time to bond with the bone. Bone grafting can add to this.

Does it hurt?

The implants are placed under local anaesthetic, and IV sedation is available if you’re anxious. We’ll give you aftercare advice, and most people manage the discomfort afterwards with over-the-counter painkillers.

How long do full-arch implants last?

With good home care and regular hygienist visits, implants can last 20 years or more. The bridge itself may need repairs or replacing over time, as natural teeth do.

Fixed teeth or an implant-retained denture?

A fixed bridge stays in and feels closest to natural teeth. An implant-retained denture clips onto fewer implants and comes out to clean, so it’s a simpler, lower-cost option. We’ll show you both at your consultation.

How much do full-arch implants cost?

It depends on the number of implants, whether you need bone grafting and the type of bridge. After your consultation and 3D scan you’ll get a written estimate, and 0% finance is available. Our fees are in our price guide.
